Regata Storica Venice 2009 – Venice, Italy Events

The “Venice Regata Storica“, an highly expected Venice event, which takes place as every year the first Sunday of September, will open this year with the historic parade. The parade will see the partecipation of over a hundred folkloristic rowing boats, guided by people in typical Venitian costumes representing the local rowing association of the city and of the North of Italy.
The “Venice Regata Storica” is, still today, one of the most spectacular and involving Venice event. This occurrence can enchat thousands of tourists and emotion the locals. The Venice Regata Storica is an historic parade, with typical boats from the sixteenth century and the “Bucintoro”, the representative boat of “La Serenissima”, leading ahead. This Venitian event recalls the reception that Venice reserved to Caterina Cornaro, spouse of the king of Cyprus, who renounced the throne for the city of Venice.
After the historic parade, the boat ride competition will take place, with the locals and touristed positioned on all sides of the Gran Canal shouting to encourage their favorite boat rider.
